“I looked up Muddy Waters. I started following Mike Bloomfield, who did an album with Muddy Waters, called Fathers and Sons, the old blues guys with the young blues guys. After I got hip to Muddy Waters, I started listening to his cohorts like Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker.
I would see Hounddog Taylor every time he came to town. Then I would start going to Chicago to see all the old blues players. I went to see Hounddog Tayler at a club called the Checkerboard, owned by Buddy Guy. I always found a way to meet the players. So I was sitting at at table with Hounddog and Buddy, blues royalty. Canned Heat was a big influence on me.””I spent special time in the Mississippi Delta, researching and visiting grave sites and going to real back road juke joints, run the Clarksdale area on the crossroads.”
